Please join us in-person or via Zoom as Paisley Rekdal presents hybrid text-and-media works that reexamine the history of the West through the stories of the laborers who built it. In 2018, Rekdal, former Utah Poet Laureate was commissioned to write a poem commemorating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.
The result is West: a Translation, which won the 2024 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. It's an unflinching hybrid collection of poems and essays that draws a powerful, necessary connection between the railroad's completion and the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882-1943).
Click here to join via Zoom if you’re unable to attend in-person. Saturday, September 14th, 7pm [MST]. Looking forward to this!
